Womanchester: Hearts for Murdered Women
#HeartsForMurderedWomen – 8th December 2019
One woman is killed every 2.2 days in the UK through male violence.
Each heart represents one of the 165 women murdered in 2018 by men, or where a man is the principal suspect.
This memorial was part of the annual #16DaysOfActivism, starting on the 25th November every year – International Day to End Violence against Women #IDEVAW
In honour and remembrance of these women lost to their families, their friends, to us, we made hearts from January 2019 onwards and chose a day towards the end of the #16Days to share them and raise awareness.
We did this to show our love for the women and to make sure they and their families could see that women will never forget them.
We asked members of the public to take a heart if they wished to, and to share a tweet using the hashtag #HeartsForMurderedWomen – to raise awareness of domestic abuse and murder.
Please see this thread for pictures and a video from the day: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1203652795632631808.html
One of us who were there, Monika, has also written a blog about the experience, which you can find in the blog section of this site.
